With UFC 135 just a couple of weeks away, the co-main event has taken a hit as Diego Sanchez has been forced off the card with a broken hand.
Sanchez was slated to take on former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes at UFC 135 in Denver on Sept 24.
UFC President Dana White announced the news via his Twitter account on Monday.
“Diego Sanchez broke his hand,” White wrote. “Looking for a replacement for Hughes.”
Sanchez was facing Hughes looking for his third win in a row since returning to the welterweight division, but it appears he will have to wait until another show to continue his streak.
Matt Hughes has been out of action since last year’s UFC 123 card when he lost by knockout to former welterweight champion B.J. Penn.
According to White’s message, Hughes will remain on the card, but matchmaker Joe Silva will be working on Labor Day to secure a replacement.
MMAWeekly.com will have more information on Hughes’ new opponent when it becomes available.
