Despite late fight scratch, Hacran Dias awarded 'show' money

hacran-dias-2.jpgBARUERI, Brazil – While Rousimar Palhares is likely complaining about the $50,00 he didn’t receive at UFC Fight Night 29, at least one fighter is probably at least moderately happy about the money he did.

MMAjunkie.com confirmed with UFC officials that featherweight Hacran Dias was paid his guaranteed “show” money despite not competing at the event.

The actual amount of the payment was not revealed, and Dias’ two previous UFC fights took place in Brazil, where fighter payrolls are not published by the overseeing commission.

Dias (21-2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was expected to face Rodrigo Damm (11-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) on the preliminary card of Wednesday’s “UFC Fight Night 29: Maia vs. Shields” event in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil. However, kidney stones forced Damm to withdraw from the card just four days before the event. With the late notice, UFC officials did not have time to secure a suitable replacement.

Dias was already in transit to the event when he received the news, so UFC officials elected to compensate him and will look to rebook him again in the near future.

A Nova Uniao fighter and training partner of UFC champions Jose Aldo and Renan Barao, Dias has been fighting professionally for eight years. He made his UFC debut at June 2012's UFC 147 event and earned a unanimous-decision win over Yuri Alcantara.

He returned to the cage at this past May’s UFC on FX 8 fight card, where he suffered a decision loss to Nik Lentz. The result snapped a nine-fight winning streak for “Baranabe.”
