A bout between a pair of surging featherweights has made its way onto the UFC’s Memorial Day weekend card.
Dennis Bermudez (10-3 MMA, 3-1 UFC) will meet Max Holloway (7-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) at UFC 160 in May. UFC officials announced the new fight booking late Wednesday.
UFC 160 takes place May 25 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and features a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
Bermudez vs. Holloway will be part of the prelims.
Bermudez, the Season 14 featherweight runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter,” is riding a three-fight win streak since his TUF 14 Finale loss to Diego Brandao. To go with the three straight, Bermudez has back-to-back fight-night bonus awards. At UFC 157 this past month, Bermudez picked up a “Fight of the Night” bonus in his split-decision win over Matt Grice. At UFC 150 in August, a first-round guillotine choke of Tommy Hayden got him “Submission of the Night” honors.
Holloway, meanwhile, has three straight wins of his own. In December at UFC 155, he took a split decision from Leonard Garcia to give him a 3-1 first year in the UFC. After dropping his promotional debut to Dustin Poirier in a short-notice fight at UFC 143, the Hawaiian outpointed Pat Schilling at the TUF 15 Finale and then stopped Justin Lawrence with a second-round TKO at UFC 150 before beating Garcia at the end of the year.
