Danzig vs. Stevenson Materializing for UFC 124

Lightweights Mac Danzig and Joe Stevenson will likely face each other at UFC 124 on Dec. 11 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

The winner of “The Ultimate Fighter” season six, Danzig has fallen on hard times as of late, losing four of his last five bouts. After winning his first two fights in the Octagon, against Tommy Speer and Mark Bocek, respectively, Danzig lost three straight contests, falling to Clay Guida, Josh Neer and Dan Miller from 2008 to 2009. A vegan since 2004, Danzig returned to his winning ways at UFC 109 in February when he defeated Justin Buchholz by unanimous decision. The 30-year-old tasted defeat again in his most recent outing, losing by submission to Matt Wiman at UFC 115 in June. The bout was marred by controversy, however, as referee Yves Lavine stopped the fight prematurely. Though Danzig was caught in a Wiman guillotine in round one, he did not tap. Thinking Danzig had gone unconscious, Lavine pulled Wiman off, to Danzig's chagrin. The replay clearly showed that Danzig was still conscious.

Joe Stevenson is another winner of “The Ultimate Fighter.” He defeated Luke Cummo by unanimous decision in the season two finale and has since gone on to have a successful career inside the Octagon. Stevenson holds an 8-5 promotional record, notching victories over Yves Edwards, Melvin Guillard and Spencer Fisher to name a few. After running off four straight victories, “Daddy” challenged BJ Penn for the lightweight title at UFC 80 in 2008. Penn dominated the jiu-jitsu black belt, lacerating him badly and finishing Stevenson with a rear naked choke in round two. Since that time, the Jackson's Submission Fighting product has fought with mixed results, sporting a .500 record against some of the division's toughest competition. Stevenson is coming off a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Aussie George Sotiropoulos at UFC 110 in February.

The event will be headlined by a welterweight title rematch between Georges St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck. The card will also feature a heavyweight tilt between Stefan Struve and Sean McCorkle and a lightweight bout pitting Mark Bocek against Dustin Hazelett.
