Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson Fight Announced for UFC 206

Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson Fight Announced for UFC 206

Anthony Johnson will look to exact revenge and finish off a perfect year when he challenges Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight title at UFC 206 on Dec. 10.

On Wednesday, UFC Tonight announced the match between Johnson and Cormier has been set for the December event in Toronto.

Cormier defeated Johnson by submission at UFC 187 in May 2015.

Cormier and Johnson have followed a similar trajectory, with three wins in each of their last three matches.

During Cormier's streak, he defeated Johnson with a third-round submission to win the light heavyweight title that Jon Jones vacated after a four-year reign.

Speaking to Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting about the upcoming rematch, Cormier went for the cheap Toronto pop by talking about Tuesday's Major League Baseball playoff game.

"The city of Toronto is still buzzing after the Blue Jays' walk-off home run last night," Cormier said. "The only thing more exciting than that is that I am defending the undisputed UFC light heavyweight title in the Six on December 10 at UFC 206, only on pay-per-view. Down will go Rumble...again."

Cormier is coming off a victory against Anderson Silva at UFC 200 in a non-title match that was originally supposed to be against Jones to unify the light heavyweight titles, but Jones failed a drug test and was pulled three days before the July 9 event.

Johnson has been a machine since losing to Cormier. He has three knockouts in each of his last three fights, including consecutive first-round knockouts against Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira.

The first bout was a perfect indicator of how Johnson and Cormier must fight to win. If both fighters remain on their feet, Johnson's knockout power could help him secure his first UFC title. If it goes to the ground, however, Cormier's wrestling could carry him to another successful title defense.
