Daniel Cormier Decides to Put His Belt on the Line at UFC 206 | MMAWeekly.com

Daniel Cormier will put his UFC light heavyweight championship on the line at UFC 206 on Dec. 10 in Toronto.

With interim light heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones still in limbo over a failed drug test that forced him out of the UFC 200 main event, Cormier will square off against top contender Anthony Johnson in Canada.

Daniel-Cormier-Champ-Belt-UFC-187-750x370“Anthony Johnson, you get your shot. I told you, you would wait until I decided you would het the title shot. I have decided it will be Dec. 10,” said Cormier when he unveiled the fight on UFC Tonight on Wednesday.

“Anthony knows what’s gonna happen. I know what’s gonna happen. The fans know what’s gonna happen. I’m gonna stand right in front of him. I’m gonna knock him out right in the middle of the Octagon. I’m proving a point. Anthony, you’re going down once again. Boom! Right hand, down goes Rumble.”

The fight at UFC 206 is a rematch of their bout from UFC 187, where Cormier won the belt.

Cormier withstood some heavy punches from Johnson at UFC 187, wearing him down, and eventually submitting him with a rear-naked choke in the third round. The light heavyweight championship had been vacant prior to that fight, after Jones was stripped of the title while dealing with legal issues stemming from felony hit and run charges in New Mexico.

Cormier (18-1) then defended the belt against Alexander Gustafsson. He also defeated Anderson Silva in a non-title affair at UFC 200. He had been slated to rematch Jones in the UFC 200 headliner, but Jones was pulled from the fight just three days out for failing a drug test.

Johnson (22-5) has been on a hot streak of his own, reeling off three straight knockout victories over Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and Glover Teixeira.
