Dana White Video: “I Don’t Think Georges St-Pierre is Going to Retire”

Georges St-Pierre Dana White UFC 167Rumors have swirled around UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre ever since he uttered the words that he needed to “step away” from the fight game for a little while to deal with some personal issues following his split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in November.

St-Pierre has been evasive in regard to just what he meant by saying he was “stepping away,” leaving everyone wondering if that meant he was considering retirement.

The champ is expected to make a public appearance this weekend, where he could clear up his fighting future. Of course, no one wants to wait, we all want to know now.

UFC president Dana White recently met with UFC Central to discuss several hot UFC topics, but not burning hotter than Georges St-Pierre.

“Georges St-Pierre never said to me, ‘I’m thinking about retiring.’ The retirement word never came out of his mouth,” said White when questioned about his 170-pound champion. “Normally, when guys even think about retiring in this sport, he probably should. This isn’t the type of sport that you’re wishy washy. You’re either in or you’re out.

“I don’t think he’s going to retire. I do know that he wants some time off, which is an issue because he just had over a year off for his ACL surgery and recovery.”

St-Pierre is currently on vacation, but is due to return later this week. When he does, he will meet with his boss first before moving on to his weekend appearances, likely tipping White off to what his plans are.

“I’m scheduled to talk to Georges St-Pierre on Thursday when he gets back from his vacation,” said White. “We’ll see where we’re at.”
