Hector Lombard wants a piece of Tyron Woodley. | Dave Mandel/Sherdog.com
Now all that’s left is for Woodley to say yes to the bout. The former NCAA All-American wrestler, who is coming off a 61-second knockout of Dong Hyun Kim last weekend, targeted a showdown with Matt Brown shortly after the victory.
In White’s mind, such a pairing doesn’t make much sense in the big picture.
“What’s weird about that is that Woodley calls out Matt Brown, but he’s ranked higher than Matt Brown,” White told UFC.com. “But we want to do Tyron Woodley vs. Hector Lombard -- that’s the fight we want to do. Hector said yes; we’re just waiting to hear from Woodley. Lombard said he would fight him, no problem.”
Lombard was originally supposed to face Kim at UFC Fight Night Macau, but the Cuban had to withdraw due to a herniated disc. Lombard has earned victories over Rousimar Palhares, Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields during his UFC tenure.
White has other plans for Brown, who is coming off a five-round defeat against Robbie Lawler at UFC on Fox 12. The UFC boss said that a future matchup pitting Brown against Carlos Condit is “very possible.”
