Dana White Reluctant to Grant Jose Aldo a Conor McGregor Rematch

Dana White Reluctant to Grant Jose Aldo a Conor McGregor Rematch

Former featherweight champion Jose Aldo stated on Wednesday that he would only step back in the Octagon if granted a title fight or a rematch against Conor McGregor.

“So I wanted to make something clear to UFC: for everything I have done, everything I have accepted and mostly how the fight ended, I will not accept any other fight other than a title shot,” Aldo posted on Instagram.

Jose Aldo vs Conor McGregor“My only exception would be fighting the notorious , at any time, anywhere,” he added. “Doesn’t have to be title fight against him. Keep my belt, but I wanna whoop ur ass anywhere.”

McGregor defeated Aldo by knockout at UFC 194 on Dec. 12 to become the second UFC featherweight champion.  Aldo had held the title since 2010.

During an appearance on Opie with Jim Norton, UFC president Dana White shot down the possibility of a McGregor and Aldo rematch happening anytime soon.

“It’s one of those things,” White said. “We made the fight the first time and he got hurt and had to pull out.

“Then we made it again and it ended in 13 seconds. It’s tough to make that fight again right away.”

McGregor will attempt to become the first fighter to hold two UFC belts at the same time when he faces lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 on March 5.
