Dan Henderson Intends to Resume TRT Use | MMAWeekly.com

The controversial use of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) was banned in mixed martial arts in February 2014.

Several fighters filed for and gained “therapeutic medical exemptions” to allow them to compete while undergoing the testosterone-boosting therapy prior to its prohibition.

Dan Henderson - In the OfficeFormer two-division Pride FC champion Dan Henderson used TRT, but is one of the few that used the treatment that didn’t test positive to elevated levels of testosterone. He’s been tested by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) reportedly more than any other UFC fighter.

“I was taking TRT when it was legal. I really wasn’t taking much,” Henderson recently told MMAWeekly.com.

“That’s what the doctors recommended for me for various reasons. Honestly, I was barely taking any of it. It was just to keep my body within normal limits,” Henderson added. “My body felt a littler better back then, but obviously, I’m still able to compete without it. I was competing before I started that for who knows how long.”

The 46-year-old Henderson plans to retire, win or lose, after his UFC 204 title fight against champion Michael Bisping.  Once he hangs up the gloves for good, Henderson plans to return to using TRT.

“It’s probably, definitely something that I will go back to.”
