Cub Swanson hoped to avenge an earlier loss to Frankie Edgar in Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 128 co-main event in Atlantic City, N.J., but it wasn’t to be.
Edgar pressed forward throughout the fight, picking away at Swanson with a stinging jab and solid leg kicks. Swanson had his moments, but Edgar was simply the busier fighter all three rounds, leading him to a unanimous-decision victory.
Despite his obvious disappointment in going 0-2 against the former UFC lightweight champion, Swanson was all class in his first public statement after the fight.
“Well, not the outcome I was looking for, but that’s the fight game. Congrats Frankie and I’m sorry to hear about your father,” Swanson commented on Instagram. “To all my supporters: thank you so much and I promise to come back stronger!”
Edgar’s father, Charlie, passed away following a battle with cancer during his son’s camp for the fight with Swanson.
