Conor McGregor Snags a Second Belt and a Bonus at UFC 205 | MMAWeekly.com

UFC president Dana White announced the fighter bonuses stemming from UFC 205 during the event’s post-fight press conference at Madison Square Garden in the early morning hours on Sunday. Conor McGregor, Yoel Romero, Tyron Woodley, and Stephen Thompson earned the $50,000 performance-based incentives.

Fight of the Night was awarded to the co-main event between welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and top contender Stephen Thompson. Woodley secured a takedown in the first round and bloodied the challenger. Thompson came back and began to pick Woodley apart in the second and third frames. Woodley nearly finished “Wonderboy” in 02-Conor-McGregor-UFC-205-Presser-750x370the fourth with strikes and a submission, but Thompson rebounded in the fifth resulting in a Majority Draw.

In the main event, Conor McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two world titles at the same time when he finished Eddie Alvarez to capture the lightweight belt.  McGregor dropped Alvarez three times in the opening frame and put him away early in the second round after knocking Alvarez down for the fifth time.

Romero perfectly timed a flying knee that sent the former titleholder crashing to the canvas. The finish came seconds later.
