Cheick Kongo meets unbeaten Augusto Sakai at Bellator 150 in Kansas

As he looks to continue to climb the heavyweight ladder, Cheick Kongo has his first assignment of 2016, and it will be against an unbeaten foe.

Kongo (23-10-2 MMA, 5-2 BMMA) will meet Augusto Sakai (9-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) have been booked for a fight at Bellator 150 in February. Promotion officials announced the new matchup today.

Bellator 150 takes place Feb. 26 at Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kan. The main card will air on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie. In the main event, Marcos Galvao defends his bantamweight title in a rematch with former champ Eduardo Dantas.

Kongo has won three of his past four fights. In June, he took a unanimous decision from former Bellator champ Alexander Volkov. That got him back in the win column after a split-decision loss to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in February. Prior to that, he had a TKO of Eric Smith at Bellator 120 and a submission of Lavar Johnson at Bellator 123.

Sakai stayed unbeaten at Bellator 145 in November with a unanimous decision win over Alex Huddleston in St. Louis. Before that, he back-to-back TKO wins after signing with Bellator. At Bellator 122, he took out Matt Frembling. And at Bellator 139, he stopped Daniel Gallemore.

The latest Bellator 150 card includes:

• Marcos Galvao vs. Eduardo Dantas – for bantamweight title
• David Rickels vs. opponent TBA
• Cheick Kongo vs. Augusto Sakai
