The fight card for the UFC’s recently announced return to Mexico City, UFC 188, continues to take shape.
Mexican fighter and “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America” winner Yair Rodriguez (4-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) meets fellow featherweight prospect Charles Rosa (10-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC).
UFC officials recently announced the bout following an initial report from CombatPress.com.
UFC 188 takes place June 13 at Mexico City Arena in Mexico. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass, though the bout order hasn’t been finalized.
Rosa opened his career with a 9-0 mark with nine stoppages (eight in the first round) before signing with the UFC this past year. The well-rounded 22-year-old then suffered a decision loss to Dennis Siver in his promotional debut, but he rebounded in January and submitted Sean Soriano for his first UFC victory.
Rodriguez made his official UFC debut and won the “TUF” tournament with a decision victory over Leonardo Morales in November. The 22-year-old, who got to the tourney final with back-to-back submission victories (one via triangle choke and one via strikes) in the early rounds, is now 4-1 with two stoppages since turning pro in 2011.
