Car Accident Knocks Ronny Markes Out of UFC on Fuel TV 10 Clash with Derek Brunson

Ronny Markes has been forced to withdraw from his UFC on Fuel TV 10 booking against Derek Brunson.

Markes tweeted news of his withdrawal on Friday afternoon, writing that he was involved in an automobile accident that will prevent him from competing Saturday at the Paulo Saraste Gymnasium in Fortaleza, Brazil. Markes asserted that while the accident was not serious, it will nevertheless force him to bow out of tomorrow’s event. The UFC has not yet made an official announcement on Markes’ withdrawal, but Brunson is also expected to be pulled from the card due to the eleventh-hour nature of the situation.

Markes, 25, has tasted defeat just once as a professional. The Brazilian made his Octagon debut in 2011 while riding a four-fight winning streak, rattling off wins over Karlos Vemola and Aaron Simpson to kick off his UFC stint. Most recently, the middleweight outpointed durable Texan Andrew Craig, taking a unanimous decision from the former Legacy Fighting Championship titlist on Jan. 19 at UFC on FX 7.

Brunson, 29, halted a two-fight skid in his most recent outing, when he earned a unanimous decision over Chris Leben this past December at UFC 155. Brunson began his career a perfect 9-0 before suffering losses to Kendall Grove and Ronaldo Souza ahead of his successful Octagon foray against “The Crippler.”
