Next month’s Cage Warriors 54 card has a slew of new additions, including a pair of main-card bouts.
Cage Warriors 54 takes place May 4 at Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales. The main card, which streams on MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) after prelims on Facebook, features a previously announced headliner between middleweight champion Jesse Taylor (24-9) and John Phillips (16-5).
New additions to the main card include welterweights Diego Gonzalez (15-7) vs. Danny Roberts (7-1) and Ashley Beaumont (4-0) vs. Matt Inman (9-5).
Gonzalez, a Swedish fighter who returns to welterweight after a stint at lightweight, is a former World Victory Road and M-1 fighter who also has a long history with Cage Warriors. He’s currently stuck in a 2-4 skid that includes losses to notables such as Akihiro Gono, Andre Winner and Ivan Buchinger. He looks to get back on track against Roberts, an English fighter who recently rebounded from his first career loss with a submission win over Jack Mason at Cage Warriors 48.
Beaumont, an unbeaten Welsh fighter, makes his Cage Warriors debut after earning four first-round stoppages in his first four career bouts. He faces the experienced Inman, an Englishman who’s dropped four of his past five fights, including one to Mason at Cage Warriors 52.
New fights announced for the event’s preliminary card include bantamweights Brett Johns (5-0) vs. James MacAlister (7-1), bantamweights Davey Grant (8-1) vs. Joe Orrey (7-6), and lightweights Brad Wheeler (9-8) vs. Jamie Rogers (8-6).
Additionally, the organization is searching for opponents for lightweight Ivan Buchinger (21-4) and flyweight Kris Edwards (8-4), who recently lost their respective opponents, Tim Newman (10-3) and Karl Harrison (4-4), due to illness and injury.
