CSAC Overturns DeJesus Win to No-Decision After Positive Test

Former Tachi Palace Fights featherweight champion Isaac DeJesus’ May 6 win over Russ Miura has been erased, as the California State Athletic Commission ruled this week that the result be changed to a no-decision.

The CSAC made its ruling at a Monday hearing in Van Nuys, Calif., where the decision was appealed by Ian Whittaker, who represented Miura on behalf of Iridium Sports Agency.

DeJesus bested Miura at TPF 9 “The Contenders” in May, earning a first-round stoppage due to strikes. DeJesus’ featherweight title was supposed to be on the line, but the bout was changed to a non-title affair after DeJesus failed to make weight.

Following the fight, the CSAC alleged that DeJesus’ drug screen came back positive for marijuana. The fighter was fined $500 by the commission and suspended six months. Tachi Palace Fights subsequently pulled DeJesus from an August title fight against Eddie Yagin.

In overturning the decision, CSAC officials referenced the recently amended Section 368 of the California Code of Regulations, which explains when the commission may overturn a decision. As listed in the section along with collusion and scoring errors, a positive drug test following the fight qualifies as a justifiable reason for changing the original ruling.

As DeJesus will not see action until November at the earliest due to his suspension, the vacant featherweight title will now be contested at TPF 10 in August between Yagin and former Bellator champion Joe Soto.
