Ben Henderson-T.J. Grant Lightweight Title Fight Tops UFC 164

Benson Henderson will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight title against T.J. Grant in the main event of UFC 164.

UFC officials Tuesday announced the booking, which takes place at Bradley Center in Milwaukee and airs live on pay-per-view. The event will also showcase the UFC return of Josh Barnett, who takes on fellow former champion Frank Mir in a long-anticipated heavyweight battle.

Henderson, 29, enters his fourth lightweight title defense riding a seven-fight winning streak and has yet to taste defeat in the Octagon. “Smooth” captured the belt from Frankie Edgar in February of last year and narrowly edged “The Answer” in their rematch the following August. Next came a dominant performance against Nate Diaz this past December, followed by razor-thin victory over former Strikeforce king Gilbert Melendez at April’s UFC on Fox 7.

Also 29, Grant won five straight UFC bouts to earn his title shot, beginning that stretch with victories over Shane Roller, Carlo Prater and Evan Dunham before demolishing Matt Wiman to kick off 2013. The Nova Scotia native put forth arguably the best performance of his career on May 25, when he knocked out former two-time title challenger Gray Maynard at UFC 160.
