Bellator's 'Pitbull' Brothers vs. Brooks altercation: Principal figures give their sides

ST. LOUIS – Bellator 145 was shaping up to be a pretty normal fight week for the promotion.

Sure, with two title fights on Friday’s card, it was maybe a little better than normal. But at the very least, fighters were in town and doing their jobs and everything was proceeding the way fight week clockwork tends to do.

Then Will Brooks and the “Pitbull” brothers found themselves in the same hallway, and suddenly things took a turn for the not-so-normal.

Depending on whose side you believe, either Brooks, the lightweight champion who fights in the Bellator 145 co-main event on Friday, was jumped by main event featherweight champ Patricio Freire and his brother, Bellator lightweight Patricky Freire, or it was the other way around, with Brooks throwing the first punch.

Brooks says video of the altercation exists and will show the world his version of the story is the truth. That video has not yet surfaced, but we do know one thing: St. Louis police were called to the St. Louis City Center Hotel, Bellator PR officials told MMAjunkie. And now, President Scott Coker said, the promotion is looking into what happened – and ultimately will decide on whether or not any disciplinary action will take place.

Brooks (16-1 MMA, 9-1 BMMA) defends his title against Marcin Held (21-3 MMA, 10-2 BMMA) in the co-feature on Friday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Patricio Freire (24-2 MMA, 12-2 BMMA) puts his belt on the line against Daniel Straus (23-6 MMA, 10-3 BMMA) – a teammate and close friend of Brooks at American Top Team – in the headliner. The main card airs on Spike following prelims on MMAjunkie.

In the video above, Brooks, Freire and Coker give their sides of what went down – though it seems like more may come from the story.
