Bellator MMA’s Season 8 finale is official for Thursday with all fighters stepping on the scale at Wednesday’s officials weigh-ins.
Wednesday’s weigh-in event took place at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey, site of Thursday’s card. The Bellator 95 main card airs on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com.
Featherweight champion Pat Curran (18-4 MMA, 8-1 BFC) came in at 144.7 pounds for his title fight against Shahbulat Shamhalaev (12-1-1 MMA, 3-0 BFC), who was 144.7 – though he needed extra time to make the weight after coming in at 146 on his first attempt.
Shamhalaev gets the title fight ahead of schedule. He won the Season 7 featherweight tournament, but an injury to Daniel Straus, who was ahead of him in line, bumped Shamhalaev to the front of the pack. Curran in January beat Patricio “Pitbull” Freire by split decision in the first defense of the belt since winning it against Joe Warren in 2012.
In the co-feature fights, Brett Cooper (19-7 MMA, 6-2 BFC) was 185.2 for the Season 8 middleweight tournament final against Doug Marshall (17-6 MMA, 3-0 BFC), who was 185.4. And in the featherweight tournament final, Mike Richman (15-2 MMA, 4-1 BFC) meets Magomedrasul “Frodo” Khasbulaev (20-5 MMA, 4-0 BFC). Richman came in at 145.1, while Khasbulaev was 145.4.
To open the main card on Spike, Bellator vet Rick Hawn (14-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) takes on former UFC welterweight contender Karo Parisyan (22-9 MMA, 0-0 BFC). Hawn was 170.7 pounds; Parisyan, making his Bellator debut, was 171.
The Bellator 95 weigh-in results included:
