Bellator 142 medical suspensions: McGeary, Ortiz possibly out six months

Bellator 142 headliners Liam McGeary and Tito Ortiz emerged from their fight with potentially long medical suspensions.

After defending his title by submitting Ortiz (24-11 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) with a slick inverted-triangle choke, light-heavyweight champ McGeary (24-11 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) needs clearance from a doctor for a “medial lateral” leg strain, or he is benched for six months. Ortiz could face the same term for neck pain; in 2014, his Bellator debut was delayed by a fractured neck.

MMAjunkie today obtained the list of medical suspensions from the California State Athletic Commission for this past Saturday’s “Bellator 142: Dynamite” event, which featured a hybrid MMA-kickboxing card. The event took place at SAP Center in San Jose, with main-card fights airing on Spike.

All fighters from the card were given a minimum seven-day suspension while some faced longer terms for more serious ailments. Notably, high-profile signee Phil Davis (15-3 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) escaped with only a minimum term after winning a single-night four-man light-heavyweight tournament with a knockout of injury-replacement Francis Carmont (24-11 MMA, 2-1 BMMA).

A rib injury reported by Muhammed Lawal, who was unable to advance in the tournament after a win in the semifinals, was also confirmed by the suspensions.

The full list of suspensions (MMA only) from “Bellator 142: Dynamite” include:
