Bellator 141 card complete with addition of five preliminary bouts

The Bellator 141 card is now complete with the promotion’s announcement of five additional preliminary bouts.

The event takes place Aug. 28 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif. The main card airs on Spike TV following prelims on MMAjunkie. A bout between Melvin Guillard and Brandon Girtz headlines the event.

Among the announced preliminary additions is a welterweight bout between A.J. Matthews (7-3 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) and Emiliano Sordi (13-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA). Matthews is coming off a 99 second TKO of Kyle Bolt at Bellator 131, a victory that snapped a two-fight losing streak in the Bellator cage. For Sordi, the fight with Matthews represents an opportunity to run his winning streak to five. He finished Bubba McDaniel with a guillotine choke submission in just 58 seconds at Bellator 128.

Lightweights Brent Primus (5-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) and Derek Anderson (12-1 MMA, 3-1 BMMA) will also meet on the prelims. Primus has stopped all five of his professional opponents in the first round while Anderson has only seen the judges’ scorecards once in his professional career.

A.J McKee (1-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) will look for his second win in his second professional fight when he takes on James Barnes (4-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) in a featherweight fight. None of Barnes’ opponents have made it to the three-minute mark of Round 1.

Ray Sloan (8-0 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) will look to remain perfect as a professional when he faces fellow light heavyweight Luc Bondole (4-1-2 MMA, 0-1-1 BMMA). Bondole has yet to find success in the Bellator cage, suffering a knockout loss to Chris Herrera at Bellator 132 and then drawing with Herrera at Bellator 136. Sloan picked up a pair of Bellator wins in 2014 and will look for a win in his first action of 2015 when he meets Bondole.

Finally, a women’s flyweight bout between Ilima Macfarlane (1-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) and Maria Rios (2-2 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) will take place on the card. Rios will look to snap a two-fight losing skid when she takes on MMA upstart Macfarlane.
