Bellator 106 medical suspensions: Alvarez and Chandler get 60 days each

MMAjunkie.com today requested and received medical suspensions for Bellator 106 from the California State Athletic Commission, which oversaw this past Saturday’s event at Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, Calif.

In a thrilling bout, Alvarez avenged his loss to Chandler and won back the Bellator lightweight belt with a split-call in the event’s headliner. After a brief appearance at the post-event press conference, he was taken to the hospital with complaints of nausea, according to Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney.

Chandler received stitches backstage from a CSAC-appointed doctor and returned to his hotel room after the event, according to trainer Eric Del Fierro.

Emanuel Newton, who outpointed Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal in the co-main event to win Bellator’s interim light-heavyweight title, received a two-month suspension for a laceration he suffered during the fight.

The most significant term was issued to Joe Riggs, who won Bellator’s “Fight Master” reality-show with a unanimous decision over Mike Bronzoulis. He is out six months with multiple injuries unless cleared by a doctor.
