Anderson vs. 'Shogun' added to UFC 198, Dunham vs. Santos moves to UFC 199

A light heavyweight matchup between “The Ultimate Fighter 19” winner Corey Anderson and former UFC champ Mauricio Rua has been added to UFC 198.

Anderson is currently ranked No. 13 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light heavyweight rankings. Rua checks in just below at No. 14.

Additionally a lightweight matchup between Evan Dunham (17-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) and Leonardo Santos (15-3-1 MMA, 4-0-1 UFC) originally expected to take place at UFC 198 will now be scheduled for UFC 199, instead.

UFC officials recently announced the new contest, as well as the schedule change..

Featuring a heavyweight title fight between current champ Fabricio Werdum and top contender Stipe Miocic , UFC 198 takes place May 14 at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. The evening’s main card airs on pay-per-view following preliminary bouts on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Meanwhile, UFC 199 takes place June 4 at The Forum in Los Angeles. The evening’s main card also airs on pay-per-view following preliminary bouts on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Anderson (8-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) earns a quick return to action after narrowly defeating Tom Lawlor in a closely contested decision at UFC 196 earlier this month. With the win, Anderson now boasts a three-fight winning streak after also downing Fabio Maldonado and Jan Blachowicz.

“Shogun” Rua (23-10 MMA, 7-8 UFC) fights for the first time since an August win over fellow Brazilian Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Rua was expected to face fellow former champ Rashad Evans at next month’s UFC on FOX 19 event but had to withdraw due to injury. He now returns one month later than originally expected and fights in his hometown of Curitiba.

With the changes to the lineup, the UFC 198 card now includes:

  • Champ Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic – for heavyweight title
  • Vitor Belfort vs. Ronaldo Souza
  • Matt Brown vs. Demian Maia
  • Corey Anderson vs. Mauricio Rua
  • Patrick Cummins vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
  • Warlley Alves vs. Bryan Barberena
  • Yancy Medeiros vs. Francisco Trinaldo
  • Nate Marquardt vs. Thiago “Marreta” Santos
  • Sergio Moraes vs. Kamaru Usman
  • Renato Moicano vs. Zubaira Tukhugov
