All eight welterweight tournament competitors successfully hit the scales Friday night ahead of Saturday’s Bellator Fighting Championships 35, which will set off both the promotion’s fourth season and third 170-pound tourney.

A quartet of welterweight quarterfinals comprises the MTV2-televised main card of the show, which emanates from the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif. In the headliner, former champion Lyman Good (170.8 pounds) begins his quest for a second tournament title against unbeaten upstart Chris Lozano (170.6).

“I’m trying to go back in there with a clean mind, trying to rid myself of the fact that I even competed in the first tournament,” Good said after stepping off the scale. “I’m coming in and I’m trying to work my way through three people right now to try and get my shot back at that belt.”

In other tournament action, high-profile offseason acquisition Jay Hieron (170.8) makes his Bellator debut against submission specialist Anthony Lapsley (170.8), a late replacement for the injured Steve Carl. Judo practitioners Rick Hawn (170.6) and Jim Wallhead (170) will square off in another quarterfinal, while second-season finalist Dan Hornbuckle (170) takes on the streaking Brent Weedman (169.4) in a rematch of a 2006 bout which Hornbuckle won via submission.

Women’s 115-pound champion Zoila Frausto (125.6) tops the non-televised “local” portion of the bill. The “Warrior Princess” takes on Karina Hallinan (124) in a 125-pound non-title affair, Frausto’s first appearance since controversially besting Megumi Fujii after five rounds last October. Frausto and Hallinan previously met in February 2009, with Frausto taking a split decision in what was both women’s professional debut.

Also in action on the undercard is Strikeforce veteran Waachiim Spiritwolf (173.4), who meets fellow local fan favorite Jaime Jara (174.4) at a catchweight of 176 pounds.
