Ahead of 'Batman v Superman' movie, UFC fighters say it's the 'Man of Steel' all day

The highly anticipated – and in many ways much-maligned – “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” movie drops in a week, so we figured it was time to start drawing up sides.

Superhero movies are a dime a dozen these days, but any time you have one legendary character facing off with another, there’s a chance something epic could ensue. And let’s make no mistake – Superman and Batman are pretty much the 1-2 punch in superhero history. They’re on Mt. Rushmore, without a doubt.

But from the get-go, next week’s big release has been under a bit of fire. It seemed to start with the casting of Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman/Clark Kent. Affleck found out in a hurry what the term “haters” was made for in the era of the interwebs.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”

When the first full trailer was released, we at least got to see we’ll be in for a hero’s dose of big-screen special effects. But in some circles, the criticism started up again when we got our introduction to Jesse Eisenberg as a young Lex Luthor. And then, out of nowhere, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman appears after the trailer shows us the film’s central villain, Doomsday (and no, we don’t mean John Howard). So it’s apparently Batman vs. Superman vs. Doomsday vs. Wonder Woman.

Regardless of how next week’s opening of the film will be received by critics, and regardless of how it will be received by fans, we have a very, very real dilemma on our hands: Who would win in a fight between Batman and Superman? Because that’s what we’re dealing with at the movie’s basest level.

We asked 22 UFC fighters who their picks would be, and the results were overwhelming. Sorry, “Dark Knight.” It looks like the “Man of Steel” has you down for the count, and there will be no rising.

For what it’s worth, one fighter abstained from the voting – because he wanted to see what would happen if the Hulk was in the mix.

By a factor of more than 4-1, though, Superman takes home the prize in our very unofficial poll ahead of next week’s release – and the reasons fighters believe he’d get the job done are wide-ranging, and often quite comical. Regardless of what happens in the movie, though, Marcus Brimage believes one thing to be true:

“The movie is going to be something of pure epicness when it comes out.”

Check out the video above to hear the highly scientific thoughts of fighters including Michael Bisping, Max Holloway, Andrei Arlovski, Ross Pearson, Ben Rothwell, Evan Dunham and Darren Elkins for their picks in next week’s big fight. And below, check out the trailer for next week’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
