After UFC 176 cancellation, Green-Trujillo, Formiga-Makovsky move to UFC Fight Night 47

The shuffling has already started in the wake of the cancellation of next month’s UFC 176 pay-per-view, and a pair of lightweights will go from one corner of the country to the other for their fight, as will a pair of flyweights.

A lightweight bout between Bobby Green (22-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Abel Trujillo (12-5 MMA, 3-1 UFC) that had been set for UFC 176 now will move to UFC Fight Night 47, which takes place two weeks later. So, too, will the 125-pound bout between Jussier Formiga (16-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) and Zach Makovsky (18-4 MMA, 2-0 UFC). UFC officials announced the moves Tuesday night, the first pair of what will be 10 fights that will get new homes.

UFC Fight Night 47 takes place Aug. 16 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. The bulk of the card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Tickets for the event currently are on sale. UFC 176 had been set for Aug. 2 at Staples Center in Los Angeles before the cancellation Tuesday night.

The Green-Trujillo fight is a re-booking from one that was set for UFC 168 in February, but that Green had to pull out of with an injury. Trujillo was later booked for a fight against Myles Jury at UFC Fight Night 44, but Jury pulled out of that fight with an injury, and when Frank Trevino also couldn’t come through as a replacement, Green was moved off the card into this fight with Green.

Green will bring a seven-fight winning streak into the matchup, including a perfect 3-0 start to his UFC career after going 4-1 under the Strikeforce banner before the two promotions’ merger. Green went perfect in 2013 with a “Submission of the Night” win over Jacob Volkmann, a TKO of James Krause and a decision win over Pat Healy this past December. He’ll have gone a little more than three years since his most recent loss when he meets Trujillo.

Trujillo has won back-to-back fights since a no-contest bout with Roger Bowling that was stopped due to an illegal knee that kept Bowling from continuing. In the rematch in December, Trujillo won with an impressive second-round TKO, and he followed that up in February with a “Knockout of the Night” and “Fight of the Night” win against Jamie Varner at UFC 169.

Formiga is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA flyweight rankings, while Makovsky sits at No. 11. The placement of the Formiga vs. Makovsky matchup on the evening’s lineup wasn’t immediately revealed. Formiga fought most recently in March, where he earned a first-round submission win over Scott Jorgensen. After the fight, Jorgensen pointed to an inadvertent head butt as the reason he was wobbled and unable to defend, but an appeal of the result was denied.

Meanwhile, Makovsky made his UFC debut just five months ago but has already picked up a pair of wins. In his promotion debut, “Fun Size” scored a decision win over Jorgensen. He returned to action in February, when he earned a decision over Josh Sampo.

With the additions, the latest UFC Fight Night 47 card includes:

  • Ryan Bader vs. Ovince Saint Preux
  • Tim Boetsch vs. Brad Tavares
  • Bobby Green vs. Abel Trujillo
  • Shawn Jordan vs. Jack May
  • Sam Alvey vs. Tom Watson
  • Robbie Peralta vs. Thiago Tavares
  • Sara McMann vs. Lauren Murphy
  • Seth Baczynski vs. Alan Jouban
  • Jussier Formiga vs. Zach Makovsky
