After Legacy FC debut, undefeated Frank Trevino hoping for UFC bid in Mexico

frank-trevino-wanderlei-silva.jpgWith the UFC primed for its first event in Mexico, undefeated prospect and Mexican native Frank Trevino (11-0) is hoping to secure a contract with the promotion in time to fight on the rumored card.

“Fighting on UFC Mexico would be a dream come true,” Trevino told MMAjunkie. “I hope my performance at Legacy this weekend, helps me to get closer.”

Trevino, who was born and raised in Mexico and now makes his home in South Texas, made his professional MMA debut in 2009 and subsequently earned victories in his first 10 fights, all of which took place under the South Texas Fighting Championships banner.

This past Friday, he debuted for the AXS TV-broadcast Legacy Fighting Championship organization, where he earned a decision win over Lester Batres in the co-main event of Legacy FC 25.

“Legacy is a big show and has a lot of talented fighters,” Trevino said. “I felt really good about my performance this weekend.”

Trevino currently competes as a welterweight but came in at just 166 pounds for his Legacy FC debut and is currently planning a drop to lightweight. He said he’d be willing to compete in either division if the UFC comes calling.

Currently, the UFC has announced its intentions to hold a show in Mexico – a market the company has long eyed for its rich boxing tradition – in early 2014. An exact date and location have yet to be named, but Mexican-American UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is expected to compete in the evening’s main event.

Erik Perez, another Mexican-born fighter, also seems a logical booking for the card, and Trevino – who has openly expressed his desire to serve as the “face of Mexican MMA” – also hopes to earn an invitation.

“You will see a fighter fighting with all his heart to win,” Trevino said. “I guarantee you that.”
