It will be wrestler vs. wrestler at UFC on FX 5 when new welterweight Aaron Simpson looks to go 2-0 in the division as he faces Mike Pierce at the upcoming card in Minneapolis.
Simpson dropped down to 170lbs after spending his MMA career fighting at middleweight, and showed a successful return with a win over Kenny Robertson at UFC on Fuel 4 in July.
Now the former Arizona State All-American faces another tough wrestler looking to build momentum in the division.
Mike Pierce has been asking matchmaker Joe Silva for a list of Brazilian opponents, but he’ll get stuck with a fellow American this time.
As outspoken as they come, Pierce has backed up his mouth with solid wins in the UFC, most recently picking up a decision win over Carlos Eduardo Rocha in June.
The two welterweights will now square off as a part of the upcoming UFC on FX 5 show in Minneapolis on Oct 5.
Verbal agreements are in place for the match-up as confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday. The bout was first confirmed by MMAFighting.com.
