“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 9 winner James Wilks will meet International Fight League veteran Claude Patrick in a welterweight duel at UFC 120 “Bisping vs. Akiyama” on Oct. 16 at the O2 Arena in London. Eleven fights are now official for the event, which Spike TV will air on same-day tape delay.
Wilks has rattled off five wins in his last six appearances. The 32-year-old Leicestershire, England, native has not competed since June, when he defeated Peter Sobotta by unanimous decision at UFC 115 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Wilks has secured more than half (four) of his seven victories by submission. Wins over current EliteXC veteran Ray Lizama and Jeremy Horn protégé DaMarques Johnson anchor his resume.
Patrick will carry an 11-fight winning streak into the match. The 30-year-old Canadian made his promotional debut three months ago, as he submitted Ricardo Funch with a second-round guillotine choke at UFC 115. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt, Patrick has delivered all 12 of his victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission. He suffered his only career defeat in a unanimous decision to Drew McFedries in June 2002.
A middleweight matchup pairing “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 3 winner Michael Bisping with Yoshihiro Akiyama will headline UFC 120, along with a key welterweight battle between Dan Hardy and former World Extreme Cagefighting champion Carlos Condit. In addition, undefeated British export John Hathaway will take on Xtreme Couture Mixed Martial Arts veteran Mike Pyle at 170 pounds and French kickboxer Cheick Kongo will collide with the unbeaten heavyweight Travis Browne.
