10 Wrestling Legends of the Early-1990s Who Could Have Been UFC Superstars: A Fan's View (Yahoo! Contributor Network)

By Eric Holden,

Over the years, we have seen UFC stars like Ken Shamrock, Brock Lesnar and Tito Ortiz make successful transitions between the worlds of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts.

According to an MMAMania.com report, UFC President Dana White recently tweeted "Good luck to my man @TheRock tonight!!! I will be watching the @WWE plus all the rumors of (to)nights event sound like it's gonna be crazy! :)." He was referring to the rumors that former UFC star Brock Lesnar would be appearing at the Wrestlemania event held on April 1.

Here's a look at ten WWF wrestling stars from the early-90s that could have successfully made the leap into the UFC:

1) The Undertaker: The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar exchanged words when the wrestling legend was sitting cageside at UFC 121 in 2010.

In a post-fight interview with UFC reporter Ariel Helwani, the Undertaker was asked if he would have considered joining the UFC when he first got his career started if the sport was as popular as it is today. "Safe bet," he responded. "Real safe bet. It's a little late in the game for me to start now, but twenty years ago I'd be all over it."

2) Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka: In his heyday, Snuka was one of the most exciting wrestlers in the WWF. His high-flying style redefined the sport and introduced a new philosophy to the game that was never seen before. I believe he could have been an MMA star because of his raw athleticism and incredible cardio.

3) The Ultimate Warrior: Current UFC star Clay Guida reminds me a lot of the Ultimate Warrior, with his shaggy hair and beastly approach to his striking. Not only was "Warrior" a fan favorite, he also was a skilled ace on the microphone. His mic skills in the early-90s puts Chael Sonnen's trash-talk to shame.

4) Mr. Perfect: Curt Hennig was a 260-pounder who could have been a dominant presence in the UFC heavyweight division. He featured a superb wrestling base and elite skills on the ground, to go along with spectacular cardio.

5) Shawn Michaels: Michaels fought in pro wrestling for over 20 years, a true testament to his passion for combat fights and will to win. He was billed at 225 pounds, but I believe he would have fit in at the UFC light heavyweight division of 205.

6) Rick "The Model" Martel: "The Model" had several famous feuds, including one in 1989 against Jake "The Snake" Roberts. He was one of the greatest "heels" in the WWF in the late-80s, and I believe that would have translated well into the UFC. Judging by appearance alone, he certainly had the body type for it.

7) Hercules: Hercules had the look and feel of an MMA star, as he was a pure physical specimen.

8) Bret Hart: Hart was a high school and college wrestler, so he already had a solid base for MMA. In his heyday, he was a dynamic competitor who became a fan favorite due to his prowess in the ring.

9) Dino Bravo: Bravo was one of the strongest men in the sport and he could legitimately bench press over 500 pounds. I would have loved to see Bravo go up against UFC heavyweights like Brock Lesnar or Alistair Overeem.

10) Hulk Hogan: Hogan, now 58 years old, could have easily been an elite MMA heavyweight in his heyday. He had the strength, cardio, personality and strong wrestling base that would have translated well into the sport.
