'UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman' drug tests come back clean

All 22 fighters who competed at this month’s UFC 162 evnet tested clean for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs/drugs of abuse.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today received the drug-testing results from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which oversaw the July 6 event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The main event saw longtime middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-5 MMA, 16-1 UFC) finally dethroned after 16 straight UFC wins and 10 successful title defenses. Challenger Chris Weidman (10-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) knocked Silva out in the second round. While Silva was not as heavy of a favorite as he had been in fights for the past five or so years, the win by Weidman still is considered one of the bigger upsets in MMA history due to the nature of how Weidman won – knocking out arguably the best fighter in history, who had never been knocked out.

Also on the main card, former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar (16-4-1 MMA, 10-4-1 UFC) won a unanimous decision against Charles Oliveira (16-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC) in a fight that was given one of two “Fight of the Night” bonuses.

Fighters of note on the preliminary card included Chris Leben (22-10 MMA, 12-9 UFC), who dropped a split decision to Andrew Craig (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC). Leben twice has served drug-related suspensions. And heavyweight Dave Herman (21-6 MMA, 1-4 UFC) was knocked out in the first round by Gabriel Gonzaga (15-7 MMA, 10-6 UFC). Herman twice has served time off for marijuana infractions.
