1. The body regulates its own PH levels. Now, if you have too much acid byproducts from the digestion of the contents of your diet, AND, are lacking in alkaline mineral levels, you will start to see the body breaking down its own tissue (bone) to get alkaline minerals to continue its regulation process.

2. I don't think you can group our 'ancient ancestors' into one single diet. The climate and location had a lot to do with what foods were available to them. There were some populations that strived on mostly meat, b/c that was all that was available to them. Some ate a larger portion of fruits or veggies for the same reason, just vice-versa situation. This is why some people theorize that people in modern society, comming from various ancestery, shouldn't eat the same type of foods as others. IMO, only intense bloodwork and other real-world results in health can tell a person if they are on the right track w/ their eating habits.

There is no 'one size fits all' solution though.
