nice comments guys finally some ppl that knows what there talking about, yea GSP is a great fighter and Hardy got dominated in stand up and in ground poor Hardy didnt have an answer for anything, obviously GSP wasnt kidding when he was telling everyone "im the best George St. Pierre that the world has ever seen and im gonna prove it when i fight Hardy" GSP is too much of a determined champ to let some punk rocker looking dude from UK beat him, lol
i always thought that the Hardy/GSP fight was a bad match up anyway, and i think alot of ppl did 2. but like Dana said "title fights are what ppl want to see and what they want to pay for" and Hardy just lucked out with good timing after he beat "Trick" Swick
Sure GSP wasn't able to finish Hardy, but the guy had no offense off his back, and yeah maybe if GSP would have look for the gnp instead of going for subs, he could've made more damage to Hardy, and GSP should totally have gone for a round of stand up fighting, he gave way too much respect to Hardy's stand up, given that GSP has so explosive stand up, so dynamic striking and KO power.
Still, he did what he needed to do, and he's still more entertaining to watch than washed up Hughes. He is just a better wrestler with better striking. GSP even put a clinic on stand up against Thiago Alves. What I would like to know is who is next for GSP? There is just no serious threat in the UFC for GSP.
They should totally bring Nick Díaz back, he's got the Cardio, the experience, maybe not the take down defense, but he sure is dangerous off his back, and it would be a entertaining fight 'cuz GSP would be more confident about his stand up skills against a guy like Diaz who doesn't throw bombs.
i love how hardy supposedly wasn't overwhelmed and yet couldn't land a single strike, couldn't get off his back to save his life, and narrowly escaped 2 submission attempts, as if that was just a walk in the park, and as if that's normal in a fight to get that dominated....if his other fights looked this bad, he would have already been dropped from his UFC contract....pleeezzz......give me a break! i understand the showboating and hyperbole, but realistically he's got alot of work and adjustments to make, and he knows it......
im thinkin the camp thought it would be a good idea to speak and get knowledge from someone who had been there done it had the experience and even beat GSP i can see the angle they were coming from my opinions like yours on hindsight he should of got someone with good wrestling and grappling skills aswel as take down defence cus thats where the big weakness was for hardy his takedown defence wasnt good really it looked ok against swick but it was all to easy for GSP.
Some one please tell me why Hardy did train with Rat Serra? He needed a wrestler, not a washouted BJJ guy! That was his biggest mistake.I know there's some Hardy hardcore fan here;so tell me why?
Would you do the same thing?Plus,he was undefeated in the UFC!
i respect GSP i do wonder who at 170 could challenge his ground game. I think hardy is one to watch for the future though for sure i would like to see him have fights with alves, kos and finch to really give him the experience needed to step up another level i dont think he over whelmed hardy but definately done the job in respects moving the fight to his strengths, and to be fair people may of expected little from hardy and hes still earned alot of respect but i see hardys potential and i know hel be annoyed that he didnt give more when standing up you cant wait around when your on the floor 4 mins of the 5 rounds, but hes got time and will come back stronger. ok i admit the fight was a bit of an anti climax and GSP'S style isnt the most attractive to watch but he's a winner, like a lot of people have said bring on silva v GSP step up your challenge cus hes just gunna do circle in the the division!!
all those GSP haters need to face da truth... HARDY DID NOT DO ANYTHING in that fight...!!! he was being pumped as a "pure striker" in da PT spots but when da fight came around how many punches did he in fact throw...? how many jabs did he land...?
it takes 2 ppl to make a fight exciting and it definitely becomes boring if only 1 fighter is giving his heart out... not taking any "heart" away from Hardy but it is clear that he was not prepared... and contrary to his "i was not overwhelmed" sound bite that just proves both his arms were in serious pain... lucky for him GSP did not extend/lift his hips on that armbar and he let go that kimura...
look back at PACQUIAO VS COTE... was that boring... i thought so... why??? because COTE did nothing but "turtle up"... da same thing applies to Hardy... he did nothing to give GSP a reason to alter his game plan... PACMAN destroyed COTE same way GSP destroyed HARDY...
GSP will be da champ until a worthy MARTIAL ARTIST comes in ready to test GSP in all areas of da game...
its not that hardy wasnt giving his heart out its just he wasnt ready for gsp. when ever hardy threw a punc gsp took him down. gsp is just on another level i really want to see him face the spider. i think gsp is a good enough wrestler to be the one to end silvas winning streak. nah just joking silvas bjj is to good for gsp
Did you make a mistake here;you said "Pacman",meaning"Spider(Anderson Silva)"right?
Or maybe there's some nicknames I don't know!If that is the case;I'm sorry.
"I WAS NOT OVERWHELMED"will stay in the MMA archives as long as NOBODY CAN'T HANDLE MY RIDDUM"
As for Hardy's arms,I would've give lots of $$$$ to watch him eat his corn flakes the next morning!!!
He won't be ready for training be4 a looooongggg time!He is hurt real bad,and I am sure of that.
And I don't know why he doesn't admits that;he's more ashamed to let ppl know that he's hurt, than letting them know that he gave that kind of performance,IMO!
Anyway,I really think he's a jerk;look which training camp he choose b4 the most important fight of his life!Rat Serra...what can I say?
There's really only two sides to the "GSP is boring" arguement. Either you think an MMA fighter's job is to win fights or you think an MMA fighter's job is to entertain the audience. I wish MMA fighters didn't need to earn a paycheck because I hate the idea that the best fighter in the world might ignore half his toolkit because he wants to win fight of the night which means trading punches on the feet most of the time. Here's a clue: if you're watching a champion fight he's not going to rush in like a moron and he probably is well rounded and specializes in not taking damage, either by "being evasive," or having a dominant ground-game or working the cage. Pierre, Machida, Couture, Anderson Silva and BJ Penn are all considered boring in a lot of their dominant fights over top guys. You just can't mess around when you're fighting the best and technically sound fights are often not entertaining for the uneducated. K1 and Sanshou are for people who don't like grabbling. This is MMA.
