it is not pointless for BJ. before this fight, Diaz and Penn were friends and now they have v limited time to psychologically prepare for the fact they will fight each other. BJ knows that Diaz takes it extremely personally when someone says they are gonna beat him down and BJ doesn't want to destroy his friendship for the sake of moneybags White, by having UFC staff telling him what to say. i feel for him and think he has a right to befrustrated. It is business, but most of us don't have a minefield of friendship to tread through every time we make a deal, so spare a thought or two out of respect.

I think UFC wanted BJ to say Nick Diaz's name specifically at the end so that the audience wouldn't think that they were recycling video clips or anything, and that the COUNTDOWN to UFC video was updated for the new card.
