I agree with La Sombra. If the ufc wants to go main stream, they need to back up what they say, when they say that the health and well being of the fighters is the #1 concern. Of course if you leave the decision to the fighter, they are going to fight every time. that is the nature of a fighter. That fight should have definately been stopped. Did you hear how hard he was kicked? That leg put Mirko to sleep. As a MMA fan, I wanted to see the fight stopped because we all knew Chris T. had no chance after taking that shot. The fight was painfull to watch. Gabriel was literally stepping over him and walking all over him. There were a few times that fight should have been stopped. He did'nt really even protect himself. I actually would like to see them fight each other again, just to see what might happen. Gabriel is a beast, but as we have seen many times before, up and coming fighter can surprise you with a single punch, kick, or sub.

They needed stop that fight and call it a no contest right then and there. I mean, my God, guy comes out, touches gloves, gets his nuts stuffed up into his throat, coughs, pukes and then has to fight the fight of his life, against Gonzaga of all creatures, two minutes after wrenching up his guts? Where is the sportsmanship or even the logic or reasoning in that? To be sure not to end up with extra air time? The health and well being of the fighters is the primary concern my ass!

WTF? The guy wanted to fight! It's up to the fighter and he knew full well that if he can't continue, then it's a NC. Obviously, the dude had more balls than brains, which is also why he didn't just tap and let Gonzaga wail on him unnecessarily.

It was his UFC debut, obviously he felt the pressure to continue when he shouldn't have.

Ok, sure, he may have felt the pressure and made the WRONG choice. That doesn't make him any smarter in my eyes, ergo "more balls than brains" is still applicable. He did have five minutes to make a simple decision with only two options: continue the fight or stop.

I think that should be a lot easier than making split second decisions of striking (and what kind), takedowns, backing off, circling off, and clenching that a fighter has to make non-stop for the entire fight.

I honestly don't beleive, for the good of this sport, that that decision should have been left in the hands of the fighter. As Creator states; "UFC debut...pressure to continue". Had he said "I can't go on", he would have been marked by management as a faulty asset; no heart, no guts, no "desire" to fight. Nobody, absolutely nobody has the desire to fight five minutes after getting their anatomy rearranged like that...much less by a guy the size and strength of Gonzaga. I can't even imagine him recovering to 75% of his abilities. Doctor's stoppage...no contest...next fight. I know (want to believe) that it was not intentional, however, they always say that and maybe if the Doctors stared to step in, in the most serious cases (like this one) we might see it a lot less. I mean, the fight wasn't even fun to watch after that.

Maybe he wasn't 100%, maybe not even 75%, but how would a doctor know that? This is just too much power taken away from a fighter to do what he feels like he could. Yes, I'm sure he didn't want to let the fans down and be written off as a bad sport. Still, any rational person would have to weigh that against how they feel and decide if they should continue.

If a doctor gets to make the decision, he doesn't have a good idea about either of those things from the fighter's perspective. He made a poor decision but it's his to make.

Honestly, did you enjoy watching that fight after the fact? Did you believe Chris had even the slightest chance of recovering "anything" after that? (muchless in the specified time?) Man, I'm not a doctor (guessing that you're not either) but I think a medical degree is not needed to see the guy was "hurten for certain" and that there was noway he was coming back...no way he could "properly" defend himself. If a doctor can call a fight on a cut (something no fighter wants to happen) why not on the destruction of a guy's family plan. (Given the choice...cut me badly on the eyebrow or kick me with all you've got in the nuts...I'm chosing B everytime!) No, this is a no contest...repeat "No Contest". That's not a win nor a loss...it's a mulligan...never happened. Personally, I think Gonzaga would also prefer it that way, rather than having his record tainted with this type of win. I think that is not too much power to be wielded by the "so called" medical personal. In fact, it's their job to step in when a fighter is in no position to make the right call as to whether to continue or risk serious injury. IMHO that risk exsisted.

At first i tought Gonzaga was acting like a douchebag(sort of).Acting as if he just won a war, with the pride of a warrior...But then i tought; What was he suuposed to do?Feeling cheap?Hiding under the octogone?
It was really unfortunate but it wasnt neither of these guys's fault. They both did a great job,and they 'll have another chance to prove themself.
Now,Gonzaga need a real test,i say vs Velasquez!!
