http://www.MMAWeekly.com/ -- The Nevada Athletic Commission, sharing the same home base as the UFC, has long set the standard for how mixed martial arts is regulated.
With performance enhancing drugs and substances of abuse becoming more and more rampant in MMA and other sports, Nevada once again took the reins in trying to slam the door on drug use.
The Nevada commission has spent months researching and debating the issue, and at its most recent meeting, on May 15, the commission voted unanimously to institute stringent penalties both in terms of the duration of the penalties and the financial consequences.
For instance, a first infraction for using anabolic steroids costs a fighter a 3-year suspension and 50-70 percent of the fight purse. Following the third-strike approach, a fighter caught using steroids three times is banned for life and loses 100-percent of his or her purse.
