In this video I show a transition from Closed Guard to Turtle position. keep in mind this is not going to be a sweep (unless you pull them so hard they fall into Side Control), but it is a great way to get out from under someone. I really like this move because it focuses on strong basics (both the technical stand up and the hip switch). This is something that you can have success with from day one through all of your skill levels. Collar Drags are serious business. Make sure that when y watch video >>

Here is one of the things that I've been using a lot lately. After looking at the video I've realized that I should have broken this up into 3 different techniques and explained each transition a little more. With that being said I've had a LOT of success with this and I really enjoy it.The foundation for all of these moves is a firm understand of collar grips, wrist orientation and control of space with your shoulder. These can be advanced things and any one of these can lead to you having watch video >>

This was one of the first sweeps developed from the Half Guard. The control provided by the lapel grip behind the back makes this a great move for beginners, because it slows down the game, while also being great at high levels, again becuase it slows down the game while giving you the ability to control your opponents body with a single arm. Although I have seen this taught many times throughout my grappling career, I have never seen it taught with the same hip movement that I show in this watch video >>

In this video I show a very simple way to finish from the back. This is the Basic Lapel Choke from the back or the Clock Choke from the back. When performing this technique it is important to remember the concepts that we have learned from the previous videos. Keep that pocket in the back and after setting up your grips keep your fulcrum stationary and move the elbow behind the shoulder. When initially setting up this submission I find it helps to start from double under grips. This gives watch video >>

In this video I show the important concepts surrounding the Lapel Punch Pass. If you watch the video you will notice that I do a couple of things differently. One of the things that I do differently involves staggering my hand grips with the lapels. This allows you to stuff the choking hand and have more success with the pass/submission. Take note at how my hands are positioned. It is very important to have your thumbs facing your chest when taking these grips. This is contrary to the watch video >>

This sweep variation is one of the most powerful sweeps I have ever encountered and it plays well as a combination threat off of the lapel feed armbar. Many of the small details that make this move successful are the same as the previous video. Keep in mind that the setup is key! Make sure that when trapping your opponents arm with their lapel that you feed under the hand on the hip and enter with a thumbs down grip over the elbow. When tightening down this position it comes from dropping watch video >>
