In this video I show a unique pass that was shown to me by one of my past instructors, Luis Togno. Luis was a great guy with some sick grappling skills and I think this pass showcases Luis's love for abusing people with their own kimono. The first step is to obviously get to the Reverse Sit position. I have heard this called all sorts of things but basically that position where you are in Half Guard with you chest facing your opponent. This is a very solid position that can lead to a lot of g watch video >>

In this video I show a defense for when your opponent is leg riding you or performing the tackle pass. The first step in this technique is to disregard your normal instinct to be "nice". You need to remember that we practice a combat sport and that sometimes being "nice" will get you into a lot of trouble. This is one of those times. More times than I can count I have seen people get into this position and use their hands to push on their opponents shoulder and hip. This drives me absol watch video >>

In this video I show a very simple and effective Half Guard Pass, The Underhook and Tripod (I've also heard to it referred to as the Knee Cut Pass and a few others). This is a pass that is picked up easily by beginners because of it's wide base and the simple fact that you do not have to have a lot of balance to do it. This, and most of my other Half Guard Techniques, center around having the underhook. If you can not start with the underhook then you can not do this pass. Please refer watch video >>

This is a very simple and effective Half Guard Pass. It works well as a beginner and continues to be effective all the way through the ranks. One of the great things about this pass is it does not require a lot of hip movement, balance or strength. As long as you understand how the leverage is applied by "caterpillaring" your body down your opponents legs (reference the video). Make sure that when you make space for your hand under the legs you do not over commit yourself to pushing into watch video >>

The Reverse Sit is my BEST Half Guard pass. It is my A game and is very high percentage. There is a little bit of perception that needs to be built when you reverse sit. You want your weight on your opponent ( check the video to see that my butt is not on the ground) and you need to bury your chest as deep as you can into that underhook. One of the things that makes this pass awesome is it is a great way to kill your opponents underhook. This pass is also great because it is difficult t watch video >>

The Dragon Tail or more commonly called Back Stepping is a great way to add depth to your game, especially against an opponent who likes to use the Underhook. In this video I show some of the finer points of being successful when you Back Step. The first step is to clear your knee. This is an important step that is often taught but under stressed. Besides it being a good idea to clear your knee from the Half Guard it also sets up this move, takes pressure off your knee AND aligns your hips watch video >>
