The Old School MMA Review is FINALLY back (how many times have we said that?) for another episode of mixed-martial arts oldies but goldies. In this episode, we take a break from our rundown of the stone age of SEG UFC while we continue counting the votes in our OSMMA Review Awards (which will be the next episode) to look at what else was going on in the sport at the same time. To do that, we watch "Choke", one of the oldest documentary films on the subject of MMA, and was the movie that introduced Rickson Gracie to the world. Released in 1999, director Robert Raphael Goodman filmed the movie in 1995. The doc follows around three fighters preparing for and competing in the Vale Tudo Japan tournament in '95 - Rickson, Todd "Hollywood" Hays and Koichiro Kimura. watch video >>

In this video I show a new choke that I've been working on (new to me). I've never really seen anything like this and it can be really sneaky against people that have never seen it as one of the grips that does the choking is placed behind the tricep. I have used a couple of different setups for this move, but in the video I show a very easy setup that I've had a lot of success with. You will find this a lot easier against people that go to Turtle position and try to rest (which you should not do). As you get better with this submission and getting your hands into the right place quickly your opponent's will not have to go to Tutrle to rest, but rather just belly down (which happens a good bit as people want to avoid showing their back yet avoid the guard pass as well). The most underplayed part of this submission is the "trumpet hand". That is the hand that grabs the lapel by the pectoral muscle. This grip will get insanely tight once you punch it towards their hips and then b watch video >>
