The Old School MMA Review returns with a huge milestone from the SEG UFC era - the Ultimate Ultimate '96! The Fight Nerd and Zane Simon are back with more useless trivia and self-deprecating humor to educate and ridicule the past of our beloved sport. Bringing you the best of the best (or whoever was available) from the past events, this epic tournament (also known as UFC 11.5) took place on December 7, 1996 in Alabama, and marked the end of an era for the company, as this event was their final one-night eight-man tournament. After watching this event, the reasons for doing this became painfully obvious. Featuring the return of stars like Ken Shamrock, Don Frye, Gary Goodridge, and Tank Abbott, along with Kimo Leopoldo, Brian Johnston, Cal Worsham, and Paul Varelans, this show is a high point in terms of talent, but matchmaking... well, you will see. Huge slams, big brawls, high emotions, and more in this opening round of the tournament and the first part of our review! Don't forg watch video >>

MMA legend Frank Shamrock spoke with The Fight Nerd recently about a variety of topics, and Frank always has an opinion worth listening to. In part two of this three part interview, Frank discusses the big changes in Bellator MMA that happened this year, which includes Bjorn Rebney being removed from the company, and former Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker coming in to take over. Shamrock says that Coker was the man responsible for getting Frank interested in MMA again, and that the older version of Bellator was focused more on the promoter (Bjorn) and not enough on the fighters. Shamrock also talks about his business knowledge and if Bellator has shown any interest in him working with the company, who the face of Bellator MMA is and why he thinks that Bjorn was the face of the company instead of the fighters, if the new face should be an up and comer like Pat Curran or Michael Chandler or a seasoned veteran like Quinton Jackson, and what Bellator needs to do to become bigger than the U watch video >>

The Fight Nerd had a chance to interview Bellator MMA lightweight contender, Michael Chandler, at a recent press event in NYC, where we talked about fighting, fighting, and more fighting! Chandler updates us on his back injury and when fans will see him back in the cage again, and tells us that he wants to fight Will Brooks again under better circumstances for another shot at the belt. The former champ also talks about if Brooks surprised him at all in their title fight, and if he watched the fight again yet. The big news from this interview is that Chandler is not as interested in fighting Eddie Alvarez as much right now, and wants the rematch with Brooks more - "Losing the close split-decision to Alvarez doesn't sting as bad as losing to Will Brooks." Chandler says he still wants Eddie, but since no one knows what is up with his contract - including Chandler. watch video >>

The Fight Nerd had a chance to interview Bellator MMA lightweight contender, Michael Chandler, at a recent press event in NYC. In part two of this interview, Chandler talks about the recent change in power when Bjorn Rebney left Bellator MMA and was replaced by former Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, and what he would like to see Coker change and do differently in this role. Chandler also tells us if he has any plans to ever return to amateur wrestling or if he will stay in MMA for good, and we ask him if the money was as good in wrestling as it was in MMA whether he would have stayed in the wrestling scene. Plus, we ask the age-old question - does Michael Chandler have a nickname? watch video >>

Bellator MMA lightweight champion Will Brooks spoke with The Fight Nerd earlier this week at the Bellator MMA Press Event in New York City about his newly won title and what is ahead for him in the promotion. Brooks tells us about his excitement in becoming the champ and defeating Michael Chandler en route to get that interim title (and how fast it all happened), and comments on Eddie Alvarez saying that his belt is just a trophy and is not the real thing. Brooks also talks about plans to unify his title with Alvarez, but is unsure what is going with Eddie and whether or not he will stay in the company. Plus, Will discusses the recent change in power at Bellator MMA with Bjorn Rebney exiting the company and Scott Coker taking over, and tells us a bit more about his personal struggles coming up in the world that helped drive him to succeed and keep moving forward. watch video >>
