This is a very simple transition from Side Control to Mount. This is the first transition taught to white belts and focuses on sound basics (maintaining base, getting the underhook and entering the knee at the armpit). Make sure that you emphasize this is not a fast technique. Take your time, dominate your opponent drive that knee into the armpit. Do not, and I repeat do not try and cut the corner with your foot near the hip bone. This will lead to you being put into Half Guard or Quarter G watch video >>

This is a fairly common shoulder lock that I see a lot of people use at the lower levels. It's not necessarily a low level move, but an experienced grappler will keep their arms, in addition to their elbows, tighter to their body and make it difficult to get this. With that being said, when you combine it with other attacks and use proper spacing concepts it can be a fantastic submission. I really like this submission because it is low risk. If you fail at this submission you are most likely going to still be in side control, North/South or Turtle top (if you miss the arm and they belly down). Make sure to watch in the video (at the 2:10 mark) to see how I left my hips to cover the space and stuff the arm. This is a very important aspect that a lot of people miss. I see some people with great pressure that do not lift their hips and try to do all the work by stuffing the arm with their hands. By lifting the hips you can get to the wrist even if your opponent is strong! watch video >>

In this video I show the Padlock submission. This is a very dominating/tight grip that can be the answer when people try to defend against the North/South (head sit) Kimura position. One of the things that needs to be addressed is the fact that this can be low percentage. Although this move is low percentage it is also low risk. It is for that reason that I still view this move as a viable option. Even if you can't get the submission it still leaves you in a dominate position.Once you loc watch video >>

In this video I show a sneaky submission from Side Control bottom. Keep in mind I would never bait my opponent with this submission by allowing them to go to Side Control but if you find yourself there then this is a good option. The first thing that you need to do is get your opponent's arm between your legs. You can feed it there on your own or you can wait for your opponent to put it there naturally. What I find is this move works the best against wrestlers that put their arm between you watch video >>
