Antonio Rogerio Nogueira considers Tito Ortiz a legend in the sport of MMA, and that's why he asked the UFC for this fight. Nogueira was actually scheduled to fight Ortiz earlier this year, but an injury sidelined the future UFC hall of famer, delaying their bout. Now it's back on again and Nogueira is healthy after suffering a neck injury prior to his last scheduled fight in August. According to Nogueira, the fight with Ortiz is something he's always wanted and he looks forward to testing him in the Octagon on Saturday night. A light-heavyweight bout between former champion Rashad Evans (17-2-1 MMA, 12-2-1 UFC) and veteran Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (20-5 MMA, 3-2 UFC) is in the works for the UFC's traditional Super Bowl weekend event, which is likely to be UFC 156.
Globo brought word of the matchup today.
UFC officials weren't available for comment when contacted by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), but a source close to the event said the fight is tentatively targeted for Feb. 2.
The UFC had held a Las Vegas pay-per-view event on the eve of the NFL's Super Bowl every year since 2004. All but one have taken place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, a 12,000-seat venue on the Las Vegas Strip.
Officials traditionally stack the Super Bowl weekend cards, and Evans vs. Nogueira certainly fits the bill.
