Escaping the Reverse Sit position can be an absolute nightmare! The most important thing is realizing the difference between the Reverse Sit and the Back Step. I find that a lot of white and blue belts get these two positions confused and it can lead to problems escaping because they try to apply the wrong technique. You must control the belt in order to use this escape. This means that your arm is NOT trapped during the Reverse Sit. Either because you saw them moving into this position and removed it or they purposefully avoided the arm being trapped. If they trap the arm you're going to need to use another escape because you will not be able to stop them turning back into you. The elbow placement after you grab the belt is very important. Make sure that you reference the video for the details as I talk about them and how your elbow is supposed to be in line with the spine. watch video >>

The Reverse Sit can be an absolute nightmare when you're trying to retain your guard, work sweeps, or try to submit your opponent. Avoid the Reverse sit can be difficult as well. It is very important that you have strong fundamentals and an understanding of body positioning in Half Guard. The best defense for the Reverse sit is to have good body angle, your head/ear listening down by the belly button and frame the knee. If you can place your head low enough on the stomach then you can av watch video >>

In this video I show an effective and simple way to escape the 50/50 position. This can be an absolute nightmare of a position against someone that knows what they are doing and I've found that at the black belt level if you find yourself in this position it's almost always on purpose (which means your opponent knows what he/she is doing). First of all it's important that you protect your legs at all times. Start off by crossing your ankles and burying your foot. The second step is going to be watch video >>

In this video I show a one handed loop choke. This is one of my absolute favorite finishes and there are a lot of places that I use it.In the video I show a simple set up from the Turtle position. Very often I show this move in conjunction with the Lapel Snatch (my previous video) as they fit well together. Next time I film videos I'll make sure to show both of these moves together. There are also three alternative finishes to this move, those will also be filmed in my next set of videos. watch video >>
