When it comes to competing under the bright lights of the UFC Octagon, Gunnar Nelson is a paradox of sorts. The 26-year-old Iceland native is stoic in the lead up to the fray, but once the cage door closes and the fight goes live, Gunni sets about working a fluid offensive attack that is equal parts adapting to what is thrown his way and finding ways to implement his increasingly versatile skill set. For a fighter who is just a handful of bouts into his run on the sport's biggest stage, Nelson's read news >>

The reaction of the MMA media to Bellator's farcical promo for Tito Ortiz vs. Stephan Bonnar has been split, but being talked about is a nice change for Spike TV's cage fighting promotion. Friday night the UFC and Fox Sports 1 got their wish and went head-to-head against Bellator in Connecticut. The early Nielson numbers are in according to MMA Payout and they show the UFC slightly edging out Bellator in the raw numbers: 0.54 for the UFC/FS1 to 0.43 for Bellator/Spike. A hefty third of the fighters competing at UFC 177 could be at risk of a pink slip. Likely Cut With a Loss Lorenz Larkin (14-3-1NC, 1-3 UFC) - Larkin can be great fun to watch, and his promotional debut against Francis Carmont was spoiled by a poorly conceived judges' verdict, but the fact remains that he's up for a third straight loss, and I doubt his UFC career could bear it. Yancy Medeiros (9-2-1NC, 0-2-1NC UFC) - His UFC campaign has been something of a mess, and he almost certainly needs a read news >>

Mark Bocek wasn't exactly forced into retirement. The 32-year-old longtime UFC lightweight didn't suffer a string of worrisome knockout losses, or even experience a career downturn of sorts. In fact, unlike most retirees, Bocek exited the sport on an upswing, having won three of his last four, with more than a few miles of tread left on his tires. Yet still Bocek has decided to call it quits, and if nothing else, his comments after making his departure from mixed martial arts official on Wednesd read news >>
