There are no rules written in stone for how championships work. It's entertainment, not just a sport, and if another fight will make more money, and the promoter wants to put that fight on, then too bad. That's how the business works. Furthermore, Anderson Silva is clearly a tougher opponent anyway, so it would still be for the good of the sport. Hendricks will get good fights for the forseeable future no matter what happens. Of course, Hendricks has every right to release these statements as well, and if they help him promote himself, then that is also a part of the business, so I don't think he shouldn't say these things, I just think that it is just effective marketing, but not actually true.
