The lineup for the UFC’s return to Cincinnati next month is once again complete.
Yan Cabral (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) now will meet Zak Cummings (16-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a welterweight bout on the prelims at UFC Fight Night 40. Cummings steps in for the fight after Alexander Yakovlev (21-4-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was moved from his bout with Cabral to UFC Fight Night 42 in Brazil against Demian Maia.
UFC Fight Night 40 takes place May 10 at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It’s the UFC’s first event in the city since UFC 77 in 2007, when local fighter Rich Franklin failed to reclaim the middleweight title from then-champ Anderson Silva. The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on that channel and UFC Fight Pass.
Cummings will be looking to get back in the promotion’s good graces after a weigh-in misstep in March in Macau. Cummings was slated to meet Alberto Mina at that event, but he came in eight pounds over the welterweight limit and his fight was scrapped when Mina wouldn’t agree to a catchweight fight. The “TUF 17? cast member won his official UFC debut this past August when he tapped out Ben Alloway at UFC Fight Night 27 in Indianapolis for a “Submission of the Night” bonus.
Cabral got his UFC start on Season 2 of “TUF: Brazil,” where he was coached by heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum. He was Werdum’s second pick on the show. He won his first two fights on the show, but a broken hand took him out of the competition. He made his official promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 29 this past October and took a unanimous decision from David Mitchell in Brazil.
With the change, the official UFC Fight Night 40 lineup includes:
MAIN CARD (FOX Sports 1, 10 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX Sports 1, 8 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (Preliminary card, 6:30 p.m. ET)
