Would Dan Henderson drop another flying H-bomb on Michael Bisping if given the chance? 'More than likely'

Future UFC Hall of Famer Dan Henderson insists it’s not personal with current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. But if “Hendo” gets a chance to reenact his infamous finish of Bisping from UFC 100, would he do it?

“More than likely,” Henderson flatly told our partners at Champions.co.

Bisping (29-7 MMA, 19-7 UFC) and Henderson (32-14 MMA, 9-8 UFC) meet in the main event of UFC 204, which takes place Oct. 8 at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England – Bisping’s home city. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

It’s a fight that doesn’t necessarily make sense from a pure rankings standpoint. After all, Bisping is currently ranked No. 1 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, while Henderson sits at No. 14. But with Henderson open about his intentions to compete just one more time before calling an end to his legendary career, the former PRIDE two-division champ provides the perfect opponent for Bisping’s first title defense.

After all, the two built a bit of a rivalry as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter 9,” which aired in 2009 and culminated in the two squaring off at UFC 100, where Henderson scored a second-round knockout punctuated with a flying punch to a prone Bisping.

While it’s become a permanent fixture of MMA highlight reels, Henderson points out it wasn’t the first time he’s used such a strike and that he didn’t necessarily mean it as any sort of message just for Bisping.

“I did it before I fought him, against Wanderlei (Silva) and maybe one or two other guys, just to make sure they’re done,” Henderson said. “The quickest way I know to get from point A to point B is to jump on them, you know? I’ll absolutely finish up with a punch or two if I knock him down to make sure that the fight’s over.

“There’s no ill will there. I don’t wish him any permanent harm or anything. I just want to make sure that I win that fight.”

Henderson, 46, insists the fight will be his last. But he admits the motivation of walking away from the sport as a UFC champion has proven something special.

“I can’t waste this opportunity,” Henderson said. “I don’t get another opportunity. This is my last fight. … I’m doing everything I know I need to do in training to be ready to go fight night.”
