With Recent Win at Shark Fights, Jake Rosholt Stalking a UFC Return

After a definitive loss to Matt Horwich two years ago, Jake Rosholt wanted to make sure that the rematch went as definitely in his favor this past Friday night at Shark Fights 17, and it did.

“I won every bit of the fight,” Rosholt said of his unanimous decision victory. “I don’t know how else to put it. I don’t feel it was a close fight by any means.

“I won everywhere. I won all the stand-up, I took him down when I wanted to, I put him against the cage. I just don’t feel like there’s anywhere he beat me during the fight.”

While motivated to get the win, Rosholt didn’t let their initial fight loom over his head going into the rematch.

“I try to forget about the last fight,” he told MMAWeekly.com. “It’s just one of the deals where you try to forget about (it). I know Matt’s a tough guy and knew going into that I was going to have to beat him up for 15 minutes.”

One aspect of the match that Rosholt wasn’t prepared for, was a conversation Horwich started with him late in the fight.

“I think it was in the third round and he was on his back and I was standing over him, punching him, and his corner was yelling at him loudly and he looks at me and says, ‘Don’t you hate that when your corner is yelling at you to do something and you can’t do it? I would do it if I could.’ It was really funny and it kind of caught me of guard,” commented Rosholt. “I said, ‘Yeah,’ and kept punching him.”

With five wins in his last six fights (with one no contest) Rosholt appears to have put himself on track for a return to the UFC. And he says he’s not going to let that talk distract him. He fully intends to continue on course and whatever happens, happens.

“I’m ready to fight in the UFC whenever they’re ready to have me back,” he said. “If that doesn’t happen, I’ll be fighting in other places.

“I’m not going to sit around and wait. I’m hoping to get a chance to fight somewhere bigger like the UFC or somewhere like that, but we’ll have to see what happens. I can’t tell the future.”

Rosholt broke his hand in the fight, but wherever he ends up once healed, he wants to continue fighting top-level competition. Rosholt promises fans he’ll be back fighting as soon as possible.

“Obviously that’s the goal and that’s the only way I’m going to get myself (looked at) being one of the best fighters in the world, is to fight the best fighters in the world,” he concluded. “That’s what I’m looking for.

“Keep watching for me. Once I get healed up, I’ll be fighting again. Regardless of where it is, I’ll be fighting again.”
