Will Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2 Move Ahead Following Latest Arrest?

After Jon Jones was once again arrested in Albuquerque, N.M., on Tuesday following a probation violation stemming from his recent traffic citations, which included Unlawful Drag Racing, the question everyone is asking is: How will this affect Jones’ April 23 rematch with light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier?

The truth of the matter is, we don’t really know. It’s likely going to depend heavily upon how seriously the judge takes Jones’ recent citations, as they are a violation of his probation stemming from an April 2015 felony hit and run incident in Albuquerque.

Of course, Jones didn’t help matters with the heated verbal confrontation he had with the officer who pulled him over for the alleged March 24 drag racing incident. Jones’ heated exchange with the officer was caught on police bodycam video. It also doesn’t help his cause that Jones had just cleared up citations related to a Jan. 31 traffic stop, when he was pulled over for driving 75 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone.

UFC officials have yet to make any determinations after Jones turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest due to the probation violation.

“UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department (Tuesday) morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week,” UFC officials told MMAWeekly.com. “UFC has been in touch with Jones’ legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.”

Jones’ management team at EAG Sports Management, however, was insistent that Jones would be vindicated once he is able to talk to the judge.

“Jon and his team are taking this very seriously and we will let the legal process play out,” Denise White, the CEO of EAG, told MMAWeekly.com. “We are confident he will be released once he has an opportunity to explain to the judge the facts in this case.”
